Hand-bound notebook, made with 100% silk charmeuse and hardwood. Silk is hand-dyed with natural dye extracts, then quilted and hand-stitched onto hardwood covers. Notebook pages are hand-bound using coptic stitching. This style of book binding allows for the book to lay open flat, ideal for sketching and writing across the entirety of the page.
LOGWOOD dye extract is derived from the Haematoxylum Campechianum tree native to the Yucatan region of Mexico. Also known as Palo de Campeche (Campeche wood), Logwood containing regions were subject to 18th century land disputes between Spanish and English colonizers, who coveted the valuable dye extract for aristocratic fashion. Currently, logwood is used as a dye stain for laboratory sutures, as well as a textile dye.
WELD dye extract is derived from the Reseda Luteola blooming plant with characteristic spiky leaves and yellow flowers. Native to Europe and West Asia, this biennial plant has been used in ancient tapestry weaving dating back to 1,000 BCE.
When mixed, purple Logwood and Yellow Weld yield varying shades of green.
BOLIVIAN ROSEWOOD, sometimes called Iron wood, is sourced from trees grown in Brazil and Bolivia.
